Kid's Fishing Clinic

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources in partnership with the Springfield Jaycees is proud to present their annual “Kids Fishing Clinic” on June 7th.

The event will be held at Conservation World on the Illinois State Fairgrounds. This project is a collaboration effort with “Free Fishing Days” which is scheduled June 6th through June 8th.

Activities for the Fishing Clinic include:
An Urban Fishing Clinic which includes: fish identification, fishing techniques, safety tips, and proper angler ethics taught by Lake Springfield Catfish Tournament Director, Willy Schrader. There will be various contests planned including a casting contest conducted by FLW-TBF Casting Federation. Prizes will be awarded for the various contests. A mid-morning snack and drinks will be provided by Sunrise Café.

Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and the fishing clinic concludes at noon. The clinic is open to all children between 2 and 12 years of age. We ask that you bring your own rod & reel. There will be a limited amount of rod & reels available for children who do not have their own equipment. All fishing bait will be provided, as well as, on-site assistants who will educate young children on how to properly bait their hooks. Download the printable informational flyer.

We welcome your participation in this fun-filled event. For more information and pre-registration, please contact Bob Baker at 217-523-3757.
